It was cold enough for the snow to remain on the branches and the ground. Also, it was cold enough to see white wisps of anyone's breath. Nothing but dragons, ice, and the most furred Pokemon probably wandered around here at this time of the day. At very least, it wasn't night. It was much more worse when it was night. Nothing but utter coldness.
A soft crunching noise cut through the forest's silence as an old, large Garchomp slowly walked through the snow, almost wading through it. The shackle bit slightly into his skin, but he didn't mind it. He had years to get used to this. He occasionally stopped and stared at something, zoning out before moving on. He let out a large sigh as he slowly craned his head upward, towards the sky.
"What is this thing?" A young Naoki asked, still in his Gabite form, as he stared at the odd white thing.
"This?" An old voice asked with a light humor in her voice. "My dear, this is snow. Did you come from an area that is devoid of such thing?" Several lovely creamy yellow tails swished softly around their owner and through the air.
"I do not know..." The young Naoki admitted. He redirected his attention to the ground immediately after saying that. He was embarrassed about not knowing of such a simple thing.
"It is alright..." The gentle voice whispered, bringing him out of his momentary shame.
Another sigh escaped from Naoki's jaws and he shook his head. No. I mustn't dwell on the past... Lest should it consume my mind. He thought to himself as he forced himself to walk, as if he was desperate to escape from his memories. They are gone. I can feel it. These wounds will never heal unless I move on and I must move on! His thoughts crashed through his head like drums beating down on him.
Unfortunately, his mind wandered once more as he walked through the forest, slowly getting snow on him, one way or other. He walked, weaved, and backtracked his way around the forest, ignoring the cold's bite as he remained outside. He let out a deep snort and shook his head again so he could better focus on his surroundings.
Who he was kidding? No one wanted to go up against a seven foot tall land shark. Apparently, that fact alone was enough to terrify Pokemon children and human children.

Oh, bother! Where was the Queen now? Why couldn't she just stay at the den just like every ruler was supposed to? But no, she had to fly away to Arceus knew where and do whatever she felt like doing. The large flygon stopped in his tracks and swished his thick tail. Fuming about it would do nothing as she was the queen and could do what she liked, no amount of his advising could stop her. He knew that the queen was tough but some little part of him hated the fact that she went off on her own all the time. It was the same little part of him that felt so light and happy when the dragonair queen was around... It was also the little part of him that he tried to subdue but ultimately failed at doing so.
With an annoyed sigh the flygon continued on though his feet felt nearly frozen. He'd been out in the cold for over half the day searching for the queen and because he was part ground type it was starting to take its toll on him. The dragon in him was hardy --albeit hardy enough to stand cold climates-- but after a while even that wouldn't hep him. He paused once more, not because of the cold temperature but because he was sure that he'd heard the crunch of snow.
The ever present red-tint that came from his lenses didn't help much with the snow falling down and the matter collecting on them. He irritably wiped them clean and peered around once more. The crunch of snow was heard again and he stepped forward. His foot fell into a sizeable hole left by a large garchomp. He knew only one garchomp that was that big. Naoki.
He followed the sounds of crunching snow as well as the footprints --though they backtracked and turned around a lot-- until he saw the faded colors of the older pokemon. The poor land shark seemed to be in a bit of a daydream as he wandered around the snowy forest. The flygon figured it was high-time to wake him up so with a hop and flap of his wings that brought him just behind the older dragon he tapped him on his shoulder.
"Naoki, are you alright?"
Most would think that the up-tight flygon cared only for himself but that was completely untrue. Raleigh cared about the other members of his tribe, especially those that he figured to be smart and down-to-earth. Naoki was one of those members. "what's going on? why did we stop?" he asked, nestling down on his belly into the snow to incubate the last remnants of heat. why did dragon types live in the freezing cold, of all places? he shivered, and began squirming through the snow to keep up his heat, so his muscles wouldn't freeze up and cramp while they took back to flight. he watched his brother and the old dragon curiously, tilting his head to avoid snowglare on his lenses. bloo this is not v good i'm sorry unu |

It sounded faint due to his mind wandering off and his other senses focusing more on his thoughts rather than his surroundings. It was probably some kind of demented bird or something flying through the forest. Maybe. In this cold? The more he thought about it, less likely it seemed.
He would have thought harder and would have come to a conclusion that he was slowly going insane, hadn't a certain Flygon touched his shoulder. The old dragon jumped and snorted a little as he turned around to notice two Flygons. Wait a minute, aren't these two brothers? Oh! Yes, Raleigh and Tilion.
"Hello Raleigh and Tilion. Yes, I am well. For most part, that is, but never mind me, how are you two?" Naoki spoke with a slight rumble in his tone, something he had been attempting to take care of but failing to do so. He bowed his head a little respectfully and smiled. Not many would have cared about some old land shark. He understood why, though.
"May I ask you two something?" The old dragon asked and waited politely for one of the two to reply. When he had waited long enough to gain a reply or not, he proceeded to ask, "Why are you two flying out here?" He had a feeling the Queen was the cause of their appearance in the frigid forest since he had learned the Queen liked to fly off to Arceus knew where for her own adventure or curiosity. He had always thought her curiosity would be the one that would get her into trouble sooner or later. What kind of trouble worried the old Garchomp, but he was sure she'd be fine. After all, she was the daughter of two powerful dragons.
Still, anyone would have thought she'd put a little more thought about her tribe than herself.[/style] [style=font-size: 10px; text-align: center;]TEMPLATE BY SAMARECARM OF OTE + BTN[/style]

The younger flygon took a step back after he saw that the older dragon had been startled. He knew all too well how dangerous a frightened dragon could be so he used his tail to try and slightly push back his younger brother in case the garchomp tried to attack. Fortunately, no such thing happened and Naoki simply gave a friendly greeting.
Raleigh gave a polite nod back to the older pokemon before speaking, "Doing well, though I wish I could be back at the den."
He glanced back at his smaller and younger brother before adding, "I'm sure he feels the same, right Til?" Both he and his brother had the same typing and thusly had an aversion to cold and when you had spend a whole day out in the frigid air it wasn't good. "May I ask you two something?" Raleigh looked seriously at the garchomp. Was there something wrong? Was he upset about something with the tribe? The dragon mentally prepared himself to take notes and report back to the queen --when they found her-- if need be. "Yes, feel free to." When the question was finally out he almost visibly deflated. That was all? Wait. Should he confide in the older garchomp and tell him the real reason as to why they flying around in the frigid cold? He wasn't sure if the old dragon knew that the queen took frequent trips away from the den as he always did his best to cover for her and steer away any nosy pokemon. He should do his best to do the same here. "We're out making rounds and finding what we can for Til's-um collection." Personally he could have thrown his brother's trinkets out to the scavengers but here it proved a useful means for an excuse. He felt bad for lying to the old garchomp but he wouldn't just tell on the queen, he'd cover for her until the day he died. Now, if the garchomp already knew about the queen's habit of disappearing then that would be a different story. [/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Any human would see this as a clear case of soccer mom arm, but Tilion had never experienced that particular phenomenon, and thus had no clever name for the gesture. But Raleigh relaxed, and so did Tilion, digging through the snow to release any warmth from the earth that he could get his claws on. "I'm sure he feels the same, right, Til?" Tilion glanced up, caught off guard.
"What? Oh! Oh, yes, it's...really cold. Super cold. Obscenely cold," Tilion explained, scratching at the crust of snow with each new adjective. But he stood upright then, having given up on trying to coax any geothermic comfort from the buried ground. Rather than nervous, Tilion grew very curious about what this old tank of a dragon might have to ask them--them of all people! What could they possibly be privvy to that an old man like Naoki didn't know? Was there some secret that he and his brother would be able to divulge to begin to embark on a journey somewhere? That's how many old human tales started--an old male would send a small clan of other humans on a long quest for some great object, sometimes with the use of pokémon companions, sometimes not.
Oh. No, it wasn't like that at all. He sighed softly, a huff of hot breath fogging in the air. Tilion held up his satchel proudly, happy to corroborate with his brother's cover story. "There isn't too much out here, because it's all barren, but sometimes there will be something cool buried in the snow." He rifled through his things for a moment, before pulling out his box of sparkly things. Most was old human jewelry that couldn't fit his inhuman limbs. "But some of this I've found in other areas around here; like this!" He held up a glittery necklace with gems styled after pokémon patterns. The leather strap had rotted through and it had to be tied to form a complete item again, but it was pretty. my third class canceled so i'm writing this in the free time! |

Tanis was flying through the sky as fast as she could. After the storm that had lasted nearly the whole evening, she had just fallen asleep in the cave. The Raichu had left before she woke, though. Too bad, really, but she knew she'd probably never see the Raichu again. She was just starting to tire when the first signs of the snowy South came into view. Ah, the forest. That would be a perfect place to rest her tired wings. And, who knew? She might find one of her Tribe-mates down there.
As Tanis flew over the trees, she spied a few green spots that looked rather familiar. She soared over them, then circled down to the ground, landing not far from the Flygon brothers and the older Garchomp. She knew the Flygon brothers weren't going to be happy with her for being gone for so long, but they were reasonable.
"Before you say anything, I got caught in a storm that lasted most of yesterday evening. I wouldn't have gotten far before the sky got too dark to fly, so I decided to stay in the small bit of shelter I'd found for the night," she explained quickly. She was panting slightly from the effort of flying so fast.
"My words. My thoughts.

His curiosity piped up when he heard about Tilion’s collection. Of what kind? Human jewelry? It seemed many Pokemon were curious about humans now. If they were this curious, then why did their ancestors allow the Rebellion to sweep through this land? Ah, the question would never be answered, for he knew few or more had lived through the Rebellion.
The old land shark started to zone out until Tilion brought something out of his bag. His eyes focused on such a small item. Ah, a necklace suited for a beautiful girl! “It’s quite beautiful.” He said, carefully tilting the gems with one of his claws in order to see it better. Ah, yes. He had seen some of the necklaces like this, but he wouldn’t tell. Oh, no, he couldn’t risk telling something of his past. It would only mean to be treated as outcast or something worse. No, he’d rather stay with this tribe.
Why? Because he knew he wouldn’t survive any longer if he continued to wander through the world. After all, he was rather old and had been experimented and battled against. No, he knew he would live long enough to see this tribe flourish, but that was that. So, he made sure he didn’t say anything about his past.
All of the sudden, the Queen popped in out of nowhere, her wings causing any loose snow to gust away from her as she landed. Naoki bowed respectfully and listened to her explanation, holding back several chuckles and his smile. Ah, yes, the Queen had indeed left the tribe on one of her adventures. Unfortunately, it didn’t sound exciting. Rather, it appeared to be scary, thanks to the storm she had experienced.
“I am glad you are safe, your Majesty.” Naoki spoke up. He wasn’t sure if he could speak any further, but he realized he really didn’t have anything else to talk about that concerned him. If the Queen was safe and not harmed, then he didn’t need to delve any further. Raleigh could have smiled when his brother backed him up in what he imagined as a poorly thought up excuse but he was known for being no-nonsense and smiling was for special occasions. Needless to say this was no special occasion.
Raleigh watched as the older dragon stepped forward to inspect the glittering necklace, he even went so far as to call it beautiful. While he'd never say it out loud the big flygon did agree that it was pretty, though he always imagined that there were a thousand other things that could be done besides looking for trinkets.
The next thing that happened took the flygon completely off-guard. Swooping down out of nowhere came the Queen, scattering snow as she landed on the ground. The first emotion that came to the adviser was relief then the second was anger. How in the world could the Queen leave when her subjects needed her so? By the Great Dragon, was he angry! However, he managed to keep himself under control and give a respectful bow to the Queen though it was difficult when she explained where she'd been.
A storm? Flying in a storm in the dark?! She could have been injured or worse! Now his anger did get away from him. His head lifted as he looked at the Jakkalse Queen. "My Queen, you were out flying in a storm?! How could you? You could have been hurt! What would everyone do without you?!"
He tried to keep his voice from raising as that would be far too disrespectful to the Jakkalse royalty but it was fairly difficult when he was angry because of what he thought of as irresponsibility. [/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

If he were an electric type, he imagined he would actually be glowing. The warmth he felt at being validated (when so many in the clan thought his hobby was useless, for baby hatchlings only, and not one who was alive at the end of the rebellion) kept away the chill from the snowflakes sticking and melting against his hide. What a nice thing! He let out a warbling trill to express his appreciation.
But his excitement at having his necklace examined was cut off as Tanis, the very queen they had been searching for, came swooping in, as if they had somehow summoned her with their worry alone. He puffed up his chest even further, dropping into a low bow, his wings fluttering gently. He straightened himself to look surprisedly at Raleigh; he couldn't speak to her that way, could he? "I don't think she would have taken off during a storm," he reasoned, eager to stand up for Tanis. She didn't need it, of course, but...well, couldn't hurt, right? sorry this is short unu lost track of time and homework is calling! |

Tanis bristled at Raleigh's words. Her eyes narrowed in a glare, and the orb at her neck began to glow softly. "Exactly how stupid do you think I am?!" she asked him, the cold edge to her voice more fear-inducing than if she had yelled. "I took shelter just after the storm hit. I heard about some trouble in the Gorge, so I went to check it out to make sure none of ours had gotten caught in it! The storm came on suddenly, so I had no choice but to wait it out in the Dark Caves on my way back! I stayed there because the storm lasted most of the evening, and there was less chance of shelter if I left at that point! I'm not a child anymore Raleigh!" Her voice slowly grew louder, but the cold edge to it never left. Her tail began to glow brightly, then it took on a metalic sheen. She struck at Raleigh with it. This was NOT what she needed just after having flown in from the Gorge. And Raleigh knew better. "I don't need a babysitter! And I definitely don't need you watching my every move like some stalker Shuppett!" She turned away, her tail returning to it's normal color. "Raleigh... I want to talk to you. Later. Alone." That she spoke softer, gentler. She was already regretting her outburst, but was was done was done. Tanis nodded to Naoki, then made to take off again. This was just not what she had hoped for right now...
